Privacy compliance – a one-minute sanity check
on your business now!

Let’s be honest… it’s not exactly blood-pumping excitement talking about privacy in the workplace and privacy principles.

However, if you run a business and you don’t know what the Privacy Act is, or the Privacy Principles, you probably aren’t doing it right and you may be at risk. If you have ever met someone who has breached privacy laws, they will tell you it’s no laughing matter. Give us one minute of your time so you can do a quick sanity check on your business using the questions below as prompts:

  • Is your business covered by the Privacy Act and its principles? Businesses with $3M+ annual turnover are covered, as are non-state / territory organisations. However, some small businesses (under $3M) must comply due to their industry. If you are a small business, there are still requirements within other Acts that mean you should protect data, even if the full requirements of the Privacy Principles don’t apply.

  • Do you collect any type of personal data on employees? If you have any employees, the answer is immediately YES (name, DOB, bank details, addresses, mobile numbers and emails). If you have employees and you thought the answer was no… give us a call!

  • Do you collect any type of personal data on customers? Most of you will. If so, do you protect that data and understand when you have to disclose it to others, and as importantly, when you don’t, or shouldn’t.

  • Is your data on your customers / employees safe? Where is it housed, what do you do if there is a data breach?

  • Do you know what the NDB scheme is? Hint: it’s a federal scheme aimed at protecting people’s data….
